Toronto is located in Woodson County Kansas on the banks of the Verdigris River. Construction of the dam on the Verdigris was completed in 1960 and for decades has provided excellent hunting, fishing and recreational activities for kids of all ages. Cross Timbers State Park, which surrounds the lake, contains 1075 acres and is adjacent to the Toronto Wildlife Area with 4,600 acres of land and water open to public hunting.
Not far from Toronto is another great area for sportsmen and women, Woodson County Wildlife Area & State Fishing Lake. The lake itself is 180 surface acres but the entire wildlife area offers a total of 2,885 acres of public lands. This lake is also known as Lake Fegan as the original property was donated by R.B. Fegan in 1933 and was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC).
